This illustration is a very personal one. I made it for the birthday of my neighbor, who’s husband died little over a year ago. In the end he was a grumpy old man but I loved him all the same.
It also marks a step in my technical development. I made it almost completely in ZBrush with only some of the base made in Blender. I put a lot of effort in the render itself, making the materials and lighting as good as possible. The file itself neared the 2 gig and rendering it in ZBrush took for ever but the result is worth it!
This is how I remembered my neighbor, sitting outside on a bench or chair having a smoke. I also bridged the uncanny valley with this one, his wife loved it! And she especially loved how I did his hands because she always admired them.
